Digital literacy: Implications for teaching and learning

The introduction of ICT in schools is a topic that, even today, divides and creates controversy; it is also true, however, that technology offers a stimulus to innovate the frontal and notional teaching method, making it interactive and social. Therefore, ICTs have an important role in the general education of future generations, favoring the acquisition of digital competence, fundamental in today's life and, in particular, in the world of work that requires an inevitable comparison with new professions and professional roles. Let us not forget, in fact, that one of the requirements most demanded today by the world of work is precisely digital competence, or the ability to process information, create new content, communicate, know how to solve problems. The "digital school" is, therefore, a real educational and social requirement that implies awareness of the potential, as well as the risks and dangers associated with the use of technologies and that requires a solid regulatory framework. In this panorama, we cannot fail to emphasize the necessary heritage of specific skills that teachers must possess, now more than ever called upon to acquire a series of transversal skills (soft skills) typical of digital technology.
